The long way from the wooden board to the carving ski
From long wooden boards without, later with clamping binding to short carving ski with high-tech shoe. Skiing has changed fundamentally for recreational athletes as well as for high-performance athletes.
Material and technology allow ever greater speeds and more elegant descents.
The ski is even older than the bike. More than 4000 years ago, people in the far north of Europe used similar boards to get around in a snowy landscape.
The snowboard, which experienced an enormous upswing in the late 80s and early 90s, has provided a decisive impetus to build carving skis for the broad market. Especially the sliding on the edge and the associated feeling of pulling on rails around the curve caused a sensation. Since the mid-1990s, carving skis have been firmly in control of the slopes.
